Phyllis Schmitting

October 16, 1936 — August 24, 2013

On Saturday afternoon, August 24, 2013 God turned to Richard and said "Your family is ready, go get Phyllis and bring her Home". Phyllis was born October 16, 1936 to the late Norman and Emma (Pingel) Quandt in Potter, Wisconsin. She graduated from Brillion High School in 1954. Phyllis was united in marriage to Richard Schmitting on December 29, 1954 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Rantoul. They enjoyed 48 years together before Richard preceded her in death on December 12, 2003. She was a member of St Peter's Lutheran Church in Hilbert and for many years sang in the church choir. Phyllis worked at the State Bank of Hilbert, Keller Equipment in Forest Junction and Furhmann Heating and Cooling in Brillion. She also was a member of the Village Board for Hilbert for 8 years. Her greatest joy in life was watching her children and grandchildren participate in sporting events, musical performances and other activities. She enjoyed her many trips to Madison these past few years. Phyllis had extraordinary gardening skills, and her garden and flower beds were admired by many. She also enjoyed going to Packer shows and watching Packer, Brewer and Badger games. Phyllis was an avid fan of the Hilbert Wolves. She was always up for a good game of cards or for going on bus trips. Phyllis especially enjoyed her weekly Friday lunches at Railway Junction. Phyllis is survived by a son and daughter-in-law David and Vicky (Zahn) Schmitting, Hilbert, a daughter and son-in-law Peggy and Paul Schley, Forest Junction. Grandchildren: Lisa Schmitting, Chilton, Brian (fiancée Kristin Zalewski) Schmitting, Appleton, Tim Schley (special friend Megan Pepper), Madison and Lea (special friend Tyler Gill) Schley, Forest Junction. Brother and sister-in-law Richard and Joan Quandt, Potter. Brother-in-law and sister-in-law Willard and Elizabeth Schmitting, Sheboygan, sisters-in-law and brother-in-law Carol and Lowell Matthias, Appleton and Wynogene Schmitting, Menasha. Special friends: Charlotte Pethan, Colleen Kovacic and Germaine Zahn, all of Hilbert and Earlene Schultz of Camanache, Iowa. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband Richard, a daughter Joy Lynn, her brother Randolph Quandt and brothers-in-law Arthur Schmitting and John Schmitting. The funeral service for Phyllis will be Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Hilbert with the Rev. Timmothy Heath officiating. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Phyllis will be laid to rest in St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery. The family would like to thank Dr Conkwright and the staff at FVHO and also Heidi, Chris and everyone from Calumet County Hospice for the care and compassion given to Mom. A special thank you to her granddaughter Lea for her help with taking Grandma to her appointments, for helping to care for Grandma, for mowing her lawn and for planting and taking care of her garden. You helped Grandma to have the lawn and garden that she always took such great pride in! We would also like to thank Marly, Eva and Colleen for taking care of her newspaper and mail for her and for tending to her flower beds. We truly appreciate all your help and we know that mom was very grateful for your kindness! Grandma, We'll cherish our many great memories of you forever in our hearts. We love you, and we know you love us more! Tim and Lea "You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face". Eleanor Roosevelt
