Ralph H. Kraus, 78, of Mount Calvary died Sunday, October 3, 2010, at his home with his family at his side following a battle with cancer.
He was born July 1, 1932 in the Town of Marshfield to the late William and Agnes Schaefer Kraus. Ralph attended Holy Cross Grade School. He served in the Army in Germany from 1954-1956. On July 6, 1957 he married Bernice Hoffmann at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in New Holstein.
Ralph farmed in the Town of Marshfield. In addition to farming, he drove school bus and also worked for the Town of Marshfield managing the town dump and plowing snow. In his earlier working career, he hauled milk cans for Kohlman Cheese Factory.
He was a member of St. Isidore Parish Holy Cross Church in Mount Calvary, a member of the Mount Calvary American Legion Abler-Engel Post 454, the Improved Order of Redmen, the St. Anthony Society and the Malone Area Heritage Museum. He also served as a Town of Marshfield Supervisor for 22 years.
Survivors include his wife, Bernice; eight children, Sandra (Erwin) Redschlag of Belvidere, IL, Steven (Sharon) Kraus of Mount Calvary, Terrance (Angie) Kraus of Campbellsport, Kim (Craig) Sippel of Mount Calvary, Jack (Sylvia) Kraus of Mount Calvary, Pamela (Paul) Simon of Fond du Lac, Jill (Bill) Wagner of Malone and Scott Kraus of Mount Calvary; 15 grandchildren, Monica (Paul) Petri, Heidi Kraus, Heather (Michael) Handal, Tiffany (Eric) Gurholt, Travis Kraus, Jessica & Mitchel Sippel, Jacob, Michael & Joshua Kraus, Sanya ( David) Diedrich, Lucas & Devin Simon and Brittany & Dakota Wagner; a great-grandson, Braison Gurholt; two brothers, Marvin (Betty) Kraus of Calvary Station and Alex (Marlene) Kraus of Fond du Lac; five sisters-in-law, Rosetta Kraus of Mount Calvary, Kathleen "Tootie" Kraus of New Holstein, Alice Kiesner of Chilton, Katie Vander Putten of New Holstein and Mary (Melvin) Rother of Appleton and three brothers-in-law, George (Judy) Hoffmann of New Holstein, Ronald (Marian) Freund of Glenbeulah and Wayne Schomisch of Santa Barbara, CA.
Preceding him in death were his parents; three brothers, Anthony, Jerome and Charles Kraus; four sisters, Evelyn (Alvin) Cords, Rosetta (Ralph) Ries, Genevieve & Janette Kraus; three sisters-in-law, Celeste Hoffmann, Anita Schomisch and Betty Freund and two brothers-in-law, Henry Kiesner and Robert Vander Putten.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 5:30 PM on Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at St. Isidore Parish Holy Cross Church 308 County Road W in Mount Calvary. Rev. Steven Kropp OFM Cap. will officiate. Entombment will be at the Shrine of Rest Chapel Mausoleum at Ledgeview Cemetery in Fond du Lac.
Family and friends may call at the church on Wednesday afternoon from 2:00 PM until 5:00 PM.
