Randall James Spetta was born June 11, 1949 in Milwaukee to Shirley (Zarnoth) & James Spetta. He spent his early years in the Milwaukee area until moving with the family to New Holstein. After attending New Holstein Schools, he worked until joining the US Army in 1969. He was assigned to the First Cavalry Division (Airmobile) and served with distinction in the Vietnam Conflict from February 1970 to January 1971, seeing action in both the Parrot's Beak, Tay Ninh Province, Vietnam & in Cambodia. The battles of Tay Ninh were described as "scary beyond belief" by author Phillip Keith in his Vietnam narratives. Randy was the recipient of several medals, including the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and the Army Commendation Medal with "V" device for heroism. He was a member of the New Holstein American Legion Post 124. After leaving the military, Randy returned to the New Holstein area and spent 26 years working as a welder at Giddings & Lewis in Fond du Lac until retiring in 2002. In 2010, Randy was united in marriage to Toni Tomlyanovich. Randy was an excellent shot & participated in many state & national shoots, including Black Powder matches. He hunted, fished, trapped, and loved riding his BMW bikes. He hunted buffalo in Montana with his Sharp's riffle and hand-built a Native Alaskan kayak. Randy and Toni met at one of the Civil War re-enactments in which he participated. He also loved building & flying rc aircraft. Randy is survived by his wife, Toni; his parents, Jim & Shirley Spetta of New Holstein; two sisters, Gail (Donald) Rieder of Fond du Lac and Linda (Alan) Atkinson of Florida; son, James (Rhonda) Spetta of Potter; daughter, Jennifer (Kyle) Coffeen of Chilton; six grandchildren; nieces; a nephew; and his buddies, Target, Biscuit, and Scruffy.
