Obituary

Rev. Campion Baer, Capuchin friar and priest, died Sunday, April 17, 2016, at the age of 85, following several health complications. Fr. Campion Baer was born August 5, 1930, in Marshfield, Wisconsin to William & Mary (Seidl) Baer. He was invested in the Capuchin Order in 1948, perpetually professed his vows in 1952 and was ordained a priest in 1955. He served in a variety of ministries, including as a teacher, most recently at St. Lawrence Seminary High School in Mount Calvary, Wisconsin. His pastoral ministries included assignments in Appleton and Marathon, Wisconsin and in Saginaw, Michigan. From 2004-2011, Fr. Campion Baer directed the provincial office of foreign missions. He served the province in provincial administration, both as director of continuing formation and as a provincial counselor. His book "A Romance of Lady Poverty Revisited: A History of the Province of St. Joseph of the Capuchin Order", was published in 2005. Fr. Campion Baer is survived by his many Capuchin brothers with whom he lived, prayed and ministered during the past 64 years. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, April 22, 2016, at the St. Lawrence Seminary Chapel, 301 Church Street Mount Calvary, WI 53057. Burial will follow in the St. Lawrence Friary Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday, April 21, 2016, at the St. Lawrence Seminary Chapel beginning at 4:30 PM with a wake service to be held at 7:30 PM.
