Richard Francis Anderson, 90, of St. Anna, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Monday, May 29, 2017. He was born in March of 1927, in Milwaukee to Harry and Mary (Miller) Anderson. Dick attended public schools in Milwaukee. Upon graduation from high school in 1945, he immediately enlisted in the Navy to fight in World War II; as Dick told it, "When Emperor Hirohito heard that Dick Anderson had enlisted, he surrendered". Dick spent his entire hitch in the Navy state-side. After serving in the Navy, Dick enrolled in Western State College in Gunnison, Colorado where he met his future wife, Victoria Anne Kuhn. They were married in January of 1951. Dick and Vickie had a happy 63 year marriage until her passing in October of 2014. Following their wedding, Richard and Victoria moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He soon was employed by Allis Chalmers in their engineering department where his writing talents were recognized and he became a copywriter. That led to a career in industrial advertising, marketing, and sales until his retirement. In 1969, Dick and Vickie purchased a historic farm property outside of Elkhart Lake close to St. Anna, Wisconsin. There they spent a long and comfortable retirement enjoying their picturesque rural wooded property. Alert and sharp until the very end, he was a voracious reader with a special interest in US military history; fittingly, he passed away on Memorial Day. Rarely a day went by in which he couldn't be found with a book in his lap and his dog by his side. Dick is survived by his son, Curtis (Lorie) Anderson of Ashland, Oregon and their children, Tara and Evan; his daughter's (Valerie) children, Stacy (Brian) Meyer of Malone, Scott (Nichole) Blanck of Van Dyne, and Sergeant Stephen (Ana) Blanck of Okinawa, Japan; many great-grandchildren; nephews; nieces; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Mary Anderson; his wife, Victoria; his daughter, Valerie Blanck; and his brother, James P. Anderson. A Celebration of his life will be held at 6:00 PM on Tuesday, June 6, 2017, at the Sippel Funeral Home, 1311 Thorp Street, St. Cloud, Wisconsin 53079. Military Rites provided by State Military Honors and St. Cloud American Legion Harvey Blonigen Post 478 to follow. A gathering of family and friends will take place on Tuesday, June 6th at the funeral home from 5:00 PM until 6:00 PM.
