Richard "Dick" Quandt

February 7, 1942 — April 29, 2025

Richard “Dick” Quandt, age 83, a Potter resident, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 29, 2025 at Theda Care Regional Medical Center, Appleton surrounded by his family.

Dick was born on February 7, 1942 at home with his twin brother, Randy in the town of Hayton, son of the late Norman & Emma (Pingel) Quandt. Dick attended Brillion and Hilbert High Schools. On October 14, 1967 he married the former Joan Salm at St. Mary Catholic Church, Hilbert. Dick was a semi-truck driver for most of his career, driving for Phil’s Pumping and other trucking companies throughout the years.  Dick enjoyed his card clubs on Wednesday’s with his buddies, sheepshead in the morning and poker in the evening.  He also liked to watch Nascar racing, having gone to most of the major tracks in the United States.  He would also go to WIR and Gravity Park to watch his nephew.  Dick was a ‘jack of all trades’ and could fix anything.  He had an incredible sense of humor, always laughing and making others laugh.  Dick loved his family and spending time with them.  And he really did do anything for them…from fixing things to allowing his niece to perm his hair when she was in cosmetology school, he was always there.  Dick and Joan often times planned their vacations to visit their children in Colorado, Washington, and Texas. They also enjoyed casino trips and playing bingo together.

Survivors include his wife: Joan; his children: Rick Quandt, Joe (Nickie) Quandt, Betty (Ramiro Gomez) Quandt; son-in-law: Russell Popp; grandchildren: Mercedes (fiancé Joal) Quandt, Robert (Alissa) Popp, Marcy (Brandon) Schoen, Jessie Ann Smith, Ramiro Gomez, Jr.; great-grandchildren: Meadow, Oakley, Adley, Reed, Lanie, and Mia; in-laws: Jean (Lloyd) Gruett, Mary Salm, Nancy Halbach, Susie (Stan) Wehausen, Michael (Judy) Salm, Patrick Salm, Sharon (Jeff) Cross, Peggy (Ken) Propson, Bonnie (Dick) Schaefer, Penny Salm, Lori (Mark) Popp, Kim Salm, and Kay Salm; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Norman & Emma; his father-in-law and mother-in-law: John & Betty (Graper) Salm; a daughter: Becky Popp; twin brother: Randy Quandt; a sister and brother-in-law: Phyllis (Dick) Schmitting; and other relatives.

Per Dick’s wishes, cremation has occurred and private services were held.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the entire staff at the ThedaCare Cancer Center for their care, compassion, and friendship through all of Dick’s treatments and appointments.  You really were all so wonderful.
