Obituary

Richard M. "Dick" Hess, age 84, of New Holstein passed away Sunday, November 16, 2014, at the Willowdale Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in New Holstein. Dick was born October 3, 1930, to the late Raymond & Rose (Pirkov) Hess. He graduated from New Holstein High School in 1948. Dick attended Lakeland College, St. Norbert College and graduated from UW-Madison. He served in the Army from 1951 to 1953 stationed in Korea. On April 12, 1958, he married Mary J. Fleischmann in Milwaukee. He was employed at Tecumseh Engine Products and at Ariens Co. in Brillion until his retirement. Dick was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in New Holstein and the New Holstein American Legion Post 124. Survivors include his wife, Mary; his three children, his son, Patrick (Connie) Hess of Morganton, NC, and their children, Ashley, Nicholas, Amber, Myles & great-grandson, Logan; his daughter, Therese (Jeffrey) Suttner of New Holstein and their children, Leta (Alan) Becker, Brianna, & Shane; his daughter, Sally (Philip) Baran of Ft. Myers, FL; his brothers, Frank Hess of New Holstein, Tom (Joan) Hess of New Holstein, and Jerry Hess of Wausau; his sisters, Lilly (John) Eckert of Decatur, IL and Anne (William) Anderson of Athelstane; his sisters-in-law, Nancy Hess of New Holstein, Judi Hess of Little Chute, and Diane Hess of Hudson; his brothers-in-law, Jesse Edwards of Jeffersonville, IN, Rev. George Fleischmann of Milwaukee and John "Jack" (Anne) Fleischmann of Shingle Springs, CA. He is further survived by many nieces; nephews, other relatives, and many friends. Preceding him in death were his parents, Raymond & Rose Hess; three brothers, Robert, James and John; his sister, Mary Edwards; and his father-in-law & mother-in-law, Joseph & Ruth Fleischmann. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 4:00 PM on Thursday, November 20, 2014, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church 1724 Madison Street New Holstein, WI 53061. Military Rites conducted by the New Holstein American Legion Post 124 will take place at the church following the Mass. Dick will be laid to rest in the Holy Rosary Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the Sippel Funeral Home 2618 Altona Avenue in New Holstein on Thursday from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM when brief rites will be held.
