Robert Isadore Biederwolf, 89, died Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at his home in Marshfield, Wisconsin.
Robert was born in Brillion, WI to Robert M. and Ermalinda Biederwolf on April 21, 1928. At an early age, he began playing the trumpet. This inspired a life-long career of performing and teaching music. After graduating from Brillion High School, he attended college at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and earned a Bachelors degree in Music in 1950. His first teaching position in Hillsboro, WI was interrupted by the draft and service in the Korean War.
Upon discharge from the Army, he went back to school and earned his Masters degree in Music at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He accepted a position at Lincoln High School and moved to Ypsilanti, MI, and lived there from 1953-1967. He also pursued post-graduate studies at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. A job opportunity arose at the University of Wisconsin Marshfield-Wood County Center in 1967, and he assumed a faculty position in the music department. He also conducted the Marshfield-Wood County Symphony Orchestra and managed the University Lecture and Fine Arts Series. The Board of Regents of the University of Wisconsin named him Professor Emeritus when he retired in 1993. He remained active as a trumpet player and private teacher until his death.
He is survived by siblings, Dolores Campbell of Tucson, AZ; Edith Kelly of Mt. Prospect, SC; Richard Biederwolf of Union Grove, WI; Judith (Don) Kaczmarski of Waukesha, WI, and Marilyn (Wally) Maynard of Wrightstown, WI; children from his marriage to Gloria Biederwolf: Robert Biederwolf (Debbie) of Emeryville, CA; Annette Hemmings of Madison, WI; Chris (Robert) Shereda of Kapolei, HI, Scott (Sue) Biederwolf of Andover, MA; Kurt (Lisa) Biederwolf of North Easton, MA; children from his marriage to Kathryn Biederwolf: Kate (Adam Gurno) Biederwolf of St. Paul, MN; Nick Biederwolf of Scottsdale, AZ; and Matt (Nicole) Biederwolf of Edgerton, WI; his beloved grandchildren Paige, Samantha, Alex, Laura, Maria, and Bennett; and many close friends.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Robert M. and Ermalinda A. Biederwolf of Brillion; his brother Mark R. Biederwolf of Glendale, AZ; his brothers-in-law Denis Campbell of Tucson, AZ; and Donald Kelly of Albuquerque, NM, and his sister-in-law Anna Biederwolf of Racine, WI.
A visitation will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 pm Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at the Hansen-Schilling Funeral Home, 1010 East Veterans Parkway, Marshfield .
The Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am Friday, January 12, 2018 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 1100 West Ryan Street, Brillion, WI . Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until the time of the mass Friday at the church. Burial will be in Holy Family cemetery, Brillion, WI.
