Obituary

Robert H. Turba, age 80, of New Holstein died peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Friday, July 15, 2011. He was born February 27, 1931 to the late Edmund & Josephine (Daun) Turba and raised in the Town of Russell near St. Anna. Bob graduated from New Holstein High School in 1948. He served in the United States Army from 1952-1954. On June 1, 1954, he married the former Doris Woelfel at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in New Holstein. He worked as a machinist at H.G. Weber Co. in Kiel, WI for 32 years. Bob was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in New Holstein, Holy Name Society, Catholic Knights Society, New Holstein American Legion Post 124, where he also served on the Firing Squad, and was a member of the International Association of Machinist and Aerospace Workers where he also served as District President. Bob enjoyed traveling the United States, hunting, woodworking, playing cards with the various card clubs, playing the accordion and organ, caring for the birds in his backyard, and enjoyed the outdoors, especially his daily walks through the woods he planted from seedlings. Survivors include his wife, Doris of New Holstein; his three children, Nancy (Thomas) Greuel of New Holstein, Thomas (Carol) Turba of New Holstein and Donna (Michael) Olig of Plymouth; his grandchildren, Erin Greuel (fiancée, Ryan Schmitz), Benjamin Greuel, Nicholas & Eric Turba, and Emma Jo & Matthew Olig; his brother, Kenneth (Lydia) Turba of Elkhart Lake "St. Anna"; his in-laws, Margaret (La Vern) Halbach of New Holstein, Eleanor (Kenneth) Klotz of New Holstein, Delores Kampfer of Chilton, Gladys Woelfel of New Holstein, Donald (Betty) Woelfel of Greenwood, Indiana, Betty (Lloyd) Petrie of New Holstein, and Ralph (Shirley) Heus of New Holstein "Marytown"; and numerous nieces; nephews; cousins; and many friends. Preceding him in death were his parents; his brother, Wilfrid (Leona) Turba; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Alex Sr. & Frances Woelfel and his in-laws, Paul (Olga) Woelfel, Jerome Kampfer, Clarence (Shirley) Woelfel, Alex Woelfel Jr., and Alice Jane Woelfel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church 1724 Madison Street New Holstein. Rev. Harold Berryman and Deacon Pat Knier will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Family and friends may call at the Sippel Funeral Home 2618 Altona Ave. in New Holstein on Monday, July 18th from 4:00-8:00 PM and again at the funeral home Tuesday morning from 9:00-10:30 AM when brief family rites will be held. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home Monday evening at 8:00 PM. In the days ahead, please honor Bob by living his example: Love your wife, guide your children, make intelligent decisions by being informed, build something with your hands, feed the birds,and plant a tree.
