Roger R. Beck, age 72, of New Holstein, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, August 4, 2016. He was born February 19, 1944 in Wausau, WI to the late Raymond & Elnora (Otto) Beck. Roger attended a one room school house in the Town of Easton and then graduated from Wausau Senior High in 1962. He served in the U.S. Army 1st Calvary Division in Vietnam from 1965-1967. On February 13, 1970 Roger married Carol M. Woelfel at Holy Rosary Parish in New Holstein. Roger worked as a diesel mechanic his whole life. After returning from Vietnam he worked for Haupt Contract Carriers of Schofield. Shortly after, Haupt Contract Carriers, opened a shop in New Holstein and Roger moved to New Holstein to run the shop. Roger retired from Tri-County Ready Mix in 2009. Roger was a member of the New Holstein Fire Department for 15 years. In his retirement, he was a Crossing Guard for the city of New Holstein, maintained the Veterens Memorial flowers, and enjoyed feeding the fish daily at the Langenfeld Pond. He also enjoyed keeping the birds and squirrels well fed in his backyard. He enjoyed spending time with the grandkids, especially showing them how to make maple syrup. Roger was a member of the New Holstein American Legion Post 124. He is survived by his wife, Carol of New Holstein; his son Jeff (Lori) of New Holstein, his two daughters; Tammy (Chris) Mertens of Chilton and Jenny (Tim) DeSombre of New Holstein; daughter in law, Julie Beck of De Pere; Grandchildren, Jessica, Cody & Ryan Beck, Lucas & Gavin Beck, Josie, Gretchen & Kylee Mertens and Conner & Chloe DeSombre; a sister, Sandy (Dave) Sippl of Wisconsin Rapids; two brothers, Charlie (Phyllis) Beck of Aniwa and Bill (Sue) Beck of Wausau. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, sister and brother in-laws, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; his son, Dan Beck; grandson, Casey DeSombre, his mother & Father-in-law, Hugo & Hildegard Woelfel; and numerous brothers & sisters-in-law. A Memorial Service will be held at 6:00 PM on Thursday, August 11, 2016, at the Sippel Funeral Home 2618 Altona Avenue New Holstein, WI 53061. Joe Zenk, Holy Rosary Parish Director, will officiate. Military Honors conducted by the New Holstein American Legion Post #124 will take place at the funeral home following services.
