Roman "Romy" E. Dickrell, age 89, of New Holstein, passed away with his family at his side on Thursday, August 22, 2024, at The Waterford at Plymouth where he resided for the past two months.
He was born April 1, 1935, in the Town of Russell to Nicholas & Norma (Becker) Dickrell. Romy graduated from Elkhart Lake High School in 1953.
On May 25, 1957, he married Rosella Salonen at St. Anna Catholic Church in St. Anna.
Romy was employed with the former Tecumseh Engine Products in New Holstein for 45 years.
He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in New Holstein, the Holy Name Society, the New Holstein Knights of Columbus Council 12393, and the New Holstein Lions Club. Romy was also a member of Local Lodge 1259 (now 1260) I.A.M. serving as a trustee and also a trustee of District Lodge 150 in Green Bay for over 25 years.
Romy was an avid gardener, both vegetable and flowers. He canned a majority of vegetables from his garden over the years.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Rosella; his four children, Ronald (Barb) Dickrell of New Holstein, Ruth (Gary) Schnell of Valders, Rick (Holly) Dickrell of Phoenix, AZ, and Renee (Dean) Thelen of rural St. Cloud; four grandchildren, Cody (Rachal) Schnell, Shawn (Brandee) Schnell, Emma Thelen (fiancé, Austin Laudolff), and Wyatt Thelen; his great-granddaughter, Sophia Schnell; his sister, Theresa Greuel of Kiel; his two brothers, Nicholas jr. (Mary) Dickrell of Green Bay and Donald (Ginny) Dickrell of Green Bay; his brother-in-law, Roger (Bev) Salonen of Glenwood, MN; and his sisters-in-law, Marlene Dickrell of Kiel and Susan Salonen of Garrison, MN. He is further survived by nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Nicholas & Norma Dickrell; his son, Robert "Bobby"; his siblings, Clarence Dickrell, Martha Kasprazak, Elvira Minor, Cyrina Turek, Mary Ann Mytko, Sr. Imelda Ann Dickrell, Ermina Mekka, Aurelia Krebsbach, Clement Dickrell, Imelda Faust, Leo Dickrell, and Cletus Dickrell; his father-in-law & mother-in-law, Vern & Helen Salonen.
A Liturgy Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 5:00 PM on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 1724 Madison Street, New Holstein, WI 53061. Romy will be laid to rest in the St. Anna Catholic Cemetery in St. Anna.
Visitation: Family and friends may visit with Romy's family at Holy Rosary Church on Thursday, August 29th from 3:00 PM until 4:30 PM.
