Obituary

Romilda "Millie" (Nett) Halbach, age 96, of New Holstein, passed away with her family at her side on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at Caring Hands Assisted Living in New Holstein.

The former Romilda Nett was born August 2, 1929, in the Town of Brothertown near Jericho to the late Philipp & Margaret (Gruber) Nett.

Millie attended Holy Trinity Catholic Grade School in Jericho and graduated from Chilton High School in 1947. After graduating, she worked in the office at Hart Carter in New Holstein. On September 20, 1949, she married Herbert "Herbie" Halbach at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Jericho. Herbie preceded her in death on June 3, 2010.

Following her marriage, she worked alongside of Herbie on their farm near Marytown and also worked for some time at Heus Egg Farm. The couple retired from farming in 1991. They moved to New Holstein that same year. Millie worked at Delta Publications in Kiel for a number of years.

Millie was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in New Holstein, the Christian Women's Society, and the Altar & Rosary Society at St. Mary's Church in Marytown. She is also a member of the New Holstein American Legion Auxiliary and a former member of the "We Love to Dance" Club. She enjoyed bowling, traveling, playing cards, gardening, and spending time with family & friends.

Survivors include her four children, Sandy (Dave) Burg of New Holstein, Carol (Dennis) Weber of Elkhart Lake, Dave (Vicki) Halbach of rural Fond du Lac "St. Peter", and Lori Hess of New Holstein (special friend, Andy Horn); five grandchildren, Brian (Jess) Burg, Brent (Bobbi) Burg, Tiffany (Maxime) Dubreucq, Aleesha Halbach (fiancé, Ade Ade Poju), Devin Halbach (special friend, Meaghan); six great grandchildren, Maddy Burg (special friend, Leo), Ellie Burg, Ethan Burg, and Miles Burg, Grayson Dubreucq, and Annora Dubreucq. She is further survived by nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herbie; her grandson, Christopher Ninmer; her son-in-law, Steven Hess; her brothers, Oliver (Aurelia) Nett, Ervin (Stella) Nett, Tony (Cordelia) Nett, and La Vern (Irene) Nett; her father-in-law & mother-in-law, Henry & Ottilia Halbach; her brothers-in-law, Wilbert (Anita) Halbach and La Vern (Margaret) Halbach; and her sister-in-law, Betty (Willard) Seifert.

A Liturgy Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 1724 Madison Street, New Holstein, WI 53061. Millie will be laid to rest next to her husband, Herbie, in the Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery following the Mass.

Visitation: Family and friends may visit with Millie's family at Holy Rosary Church on Wednesday, May 20th from 10:00 AM until 12:45 PM.

Millie's family expresses their sincere appreciation to the staff at Caring Hands Assisted Living for the wonderful care given to her and to the Calumet County Hospice Agency for assisting our family.
