Obituary

Rose M. (Schmitz) Engel-Meyer, 93, formerly of Kiel, passed in her sleep peacefully on Friday, December 31, 2010 at the Villa Loretto Nursing Home in Mount Calvary where she resided for the past 14 months. She was born September 29, 1917 in the Town of Marshfield to the late John & Barbara (Gundert) Schmitz. On October 16, 1935, she married Norbert J. Engel Sr. He preceded her in death on September 2, 1977. On May 13, 2000, she married Walter Meyer. He preceded her in death on April 28, 2007. Rose was a member of St. Anna Catholic Church in St. Anna, the Christian Mother's Society, and the Catholic Knights. Rose helped make quilts that were donated to the Salvatorian Center for the needy. Survivors include her ten children, Rosemary Baus of Kiel, Linda (Ron) Gaura of New Berlin, Sylvia (Vito) Recchia of Corona, CA, George (Betty) Engel of New Holstein, Mary Ann (Ed) Flynn of Henderson, NV, Carol Engel of Madison, Joan (Greg) Jahnke of Pewaukee, Steve Engel of New Holstein, Daniel Engel of Van Nuys, CA and Norbert Jr. (Jayne) Engel of New Holstein; 31 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; seven step children, John (Tess) Meyer, Terri (Lewie) Lundberg, Dori (Tom) Bibo, Denny (Mary) Meyer, Richard (Mary Jo) Meyer, Gary (Joyce) Meyer, and Kay (Dennis) Whitney; a step son-in-law, Richard Keuler; 28 step grandchildren; 25 step great-grandchildren; her sister, Mabel Floyd of Campbellsport and her sister-in-law, Virginia Steffes of Mount Calvary. Preceding her in death were her parents; her first husband, Norbert J. Engel Sr.; her second husband, Walter Meyer; a son, Roger Engel; a son-in-law, Ken Baus; a step-daughter, Joan Keuler; seven brothers and two sisters. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at St. Anna Catholic Church N188 School Street New Holstein "St. Anna". Rev. Loren Nys SDS will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Family and friends may call at the Sippel Funeral Home 2618 Altona Ave. New Holstein on Tuesday, January 4th from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM and at St. Anna Catholic Church Wednesday morning from 9:00 AM until the time of services.
