Rosemarie "Rosie" H. Thome, age 83, of New Holstein, passed away Thursday, August 30, 2018, at the Villa Loretto Nursing Home in Mount Calvary.
She was born in the middle of a blizzard on February 25, 1935, at home on the family dairy farm to the late Elwin "Bud" & Rose (Jaeckels) Meyer.
Rosie attended Holy Rosary Grade School and graduated from New Holstein High School in 1953. She went on to receive her diploma in nursing from St. Agnes School of Nursing in 1956.
On May 18, 1957, she married Gordon "Gordy" Thome at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in New Holstein. They celebrated 55 years of marriage in 2012. Gordy preceded her in death on December 17, 2012.
Rosie was a proud alumnus of St. Agnes School of Nursing and enjoyed attending many reunions. She practiced as a Registered Nurse for 40 years. She began her career at St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac and St. Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan in the newborn nursery; before moving on to Calumet Memorial Hospital in Chilton where she eventually became the Director of Nursing. Rosie retired in 1997 as the Supervisor of Nursing at the former Calumet Homestead Nursing Home in New Holstein. She made many life-long friends and loved the people she worked with.
She was a life-time member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church where she was also a member of the Daughters of Isabella, the Christian Womens Society, and the St. Vincent DePaul Society. She volunteered at the parish food pantry and at the Calumet Medical Center.
Rosie was the most loving and caring mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother one could ask for.
She is survived by her three children, Kris (Lee) Gilgenbach of Fond du Lac "Johnsburg", Cindy (Brian) Veara of Surprise, AZ, and Eric (Kathy) Thome of Franklin; five grandchildren, Erin (Kyle) Johnson, Bradley Veara, Alissa (Scott) Brooks, Ashlyn and Abrielle Thome; two great-grandchildren, Cadence and Drake Johnson; her sister, Patricia (Paul) Buechel of Brookfield; her brother, George (Jayne) Meyer of Madison; four sisters-in-law, Mary Jean Beyer and Doris DuWell of Mount Calvary, Betty Thome of Appleton, and Joanne Thome of Fond du Lac. Rosie is further survived by many nephews; nieces; other relatives and many wonderful friends and neighbors.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Gordy; her parents, Elwin "Bud" & Rose Meyer; father-in-law & mother-in-law, Dennis & Caroline Thome; her sister, Betty Duzinske; brothers-in-law, Lyle Duzinske, Jack Cotter, LaVerne Beyer, Eugene DuWell, Earl Thome, Alois "Dickie" Thome, and Dennis Thome; sisters-in-law, Marion Cotter and Marcella Thome; and closest canine buddy, Muffin.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 8, 2018, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 1724 Madison Street, New Holstein, WI 53061. Rosie will be laid to rest next to her husband, Gordy, in the Holy Rosary Cemetery following the Mass.
Visitation: Family and friends may greet the family at Holy Rosary Church on Saturday, September 8th from 9:00 AM until 10:30 AM.
A Memorial Fund will be established in Rosie's name for the St. Vincent DePaul Society and the Sister Servants of Christ the King at Cristo Rey Ranch in Mount Calvary.
