Obituary

Ruth C. Bittner, age 78, of Mount Calvary, passed away Saturday, May 1, 2021, at Theda Clark Regional Medical Center in Neenah. She was born May 16, 1942, in the Town of Marshfield near St. Joe to Erwin & Marie (Laudolff) Nickel. Ruth graduated from New Holstein High School with the Class of 1960. On April 24, 1965, she married Bob Bittner at St. Joseph Catholic Church in St. Joe. Ruth worked for many years at the St. Lawrence Seminary in Mount Calvary; she retired in 2001. She was an EMT with the Mount Calvary Ambulance Service for 15 years. Ruth was very active within the community. Many school aged children in the area received her homemade knitted caps, mittens, and scarves. Those knitted items also made there way to many missions here and abroad; which is how she attained the name, "The Hat Lady". Ruth was also involved with a group of ladies that made quilts that were donated to veteran's homes. She was a member of St. Isidore Parish-Holy Cross Church, the Christian Women's Society, and the Mount Calvary American Legion Auxiliary. Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Bob; her four daughters, Becky (Bryan) McDowell of St. Peter, Christine (David) Deich of Waupun, Carol (Terry) Boehnlein of Mount Calvary, and Kimberly (Stephen) Park of Seville, Spain; 10 grandchildren, Bailey (Mackenzie) Nick, Brooke McDowell, Dylan (Melissa) Deich, Brandon (Alena) Deich, Travis Boehnlein, Nathan Boehnlein, and Madeline Boehnlein, Caleb Park, Gracyn Park, and Jack Park; three great-grandchildren, Brooks Deich, Calihan Deich, and Bowen Deich; her sisters and brothers, Beatty Ristow, Roman (Ruth) Nickel, Norm (Doris) Nickel, and Kathy (Dick) Gutreuter; her brothers-in-law, Dave Zimmerman and John (Gayle) Bittner; a sister-in-law, Janice Bittner; many nieces; nephews; other relatives; and many friends. Preceding her in death were her parents, Erwin & Marie Nickel; a daughter, Susan Bittner; a sister, Elsie Zimmerman; her father-in-law & mother-in-law, Al & Gert Bittner; and two brothers-in-law, Wayne Ristow and Charles Bittner. A Liturgy of the Word Service will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, May 9, 2021, at the Sippel Funeral Home 1311 Thorp Street, St. Cloud, WI 53079. Rev. Gary Wegner, OFM Cap will preside. Visitation: Family and friends may visit with Ruth's family at the Sippel Funeral Home in St. Cloud on Sunday, May 9th from 12:00 Noon until 2:45 PM.
