Obituary

Shirley A Carey, age 75, of New Holstein, passed away peacefully Thursday, March 1, 2018, with her loving family at her side. Shirley Kandler was born September 29, 1942, in New Holstein to Gilbert & Edna (Maile) Kandler. She attended New Holstein Elementary School and graduated from New Holstein High School with the class of 1960. Shirley attended Lakeshore Technical College where she received her real estate broker license and appraisal. She sold real estate in the New Holstein area for many years. On October 8, 1960, she married Brian Carey at Zion Lutheran Church in New Holstein. Brian preceded her in death on December 15, 2017. Shirley was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in New Holstein. She was involved with the church youth group. Survivors include her four children, Jerrilynn (Dennis) Sarver of Fond du Lac, Doug Carey of New Holstein, Craig (Carol) Carey of New Holstein, and Shawn Carey of New Holstein; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; her brothers, James Kandler and William (Mary) Kandler, both of New Holstein; her sister-in-law, Susan (Joseph) Johnson of Round Lake Beach, IL; two brothers-in-law, Keven (Dolores) Fremter of Redding, CA and Rudolph (Betty) Fremter of Round Lake Park, IL. She is further survived by nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends. Preceding Shirley in death was her father & mother, Gilbert & Edna Kandler; two sisters-in-law, Sandra Kandler & Caroline Johnson; father-in-law George Carey; her mother-in-law & step-father-in-law, Dorothy & Rudolph Fremter; three nephews; and a niece. Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at Zion Lutheran Church, 1724 Van Buren Street, New Holstein, WI 53061. Rev. Azor Cigelski will officiate. Shirley will be laid to rest next to her husband, Brian, in the Countryview Cemetery in the Town of New Holstein. Visitation: Family and friends may greet the family at Zion Lutheran Church on Saturday, March 3rd from 10:00 AM until 11:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established in her name.
