Obituary

Signe E. (Rogne) Burkart, age 71, of rural New Holstein, passed away with her family by her side on Thursday, September 29, 2022, at Sharon S. Richardson Hospice in Sheboygan Falls following a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born May 20, 1951, in Manitowoc to the late Oscar & Helen (Rue) Rogne. Signe graduated from Valders High School in 1969 and from Silver Lake College in 1994 where she earned her degree in elementary education.

On October 9, 1971, she married Mike Burkart at Faith Lutheran Church in Valders.

Following receiving her teaching degree, Signe taught at several area schools including, CPES in Johnsburg, St. Mary's Catholic School in Sheboygan Falls, S.S. Peter & Paul Catholic School in Kiel, St. John the Baptist Catholic School in Plymouth, and most recently substitute taught at grade schools in Kiel, New Holstein, and Chilton.

Signe was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Plymouth where she served on the council, sang in the choir and served as the librarian. She also sang with the Plymouth Arts Center Singers. She had a passion for education and loved spending time tending all her flower gardens with her dogs.

Survivors include her husband, Mike; her two daughters, Carla McCarthy of Des Moines, IA and Kimberley Zur of Caledonia, WI; her brothers & sister, Gene (Judy) Rogne of Minocqua, Ronald (Rock) (Betty) Rogne of Ramsey, MN, and Sonja Delgman of Grafton; her mother-in-law, Daisy Burkart of St. Nazianz; her brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law, Jim Burkart of Whitelaw, Bob Burkart of Howards Grove, John (Sandy) Burkart of St. Nazianz, Joan (Bill) Wachal of St. Nazianz, and Jerry Burkart of St. Nazianz. She is further survived by many nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Oscar & Helen Rogne; a brother, Darrell (Mary) Rogne; and her father-in-law, Harold Burkart.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 6, 2022, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1808 Eastern Avenue, Plymouth, WI 53073. Pastor Sara Gorman will officiate.

Visitation: Family and friends may visit with Signe's family at the Sippel Funeral Home, 2618 Altona Avenue, New Holstein, WI 53061, on Wednesday, October 5th from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Visitation will also be at Redeemer Lutheran Church on Thursday, October 6th from 10:00 AM until 10:45 AM.

A memorial fund will be established in her name.

Signe's family expresses their heart-felt appreciation to Sharon S. Richardson Hospice for their care and compassion given to her and shown to our family. Our family is deeply touched by the family and friends that supported her and us during this difficult journey.
