Sr. Theresa Vandeberghe SSCK, Age 97, of Mt. Calvary, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at the Villa Rosa in Mt. Calvary.

She was born Irene Ann Vandeberghe on October 3, 1928, to John and Stella (Barnick) Vandeberghe in Jud, North Dakota.

She attended School House on the Prairie in Sheldon, North Dakota and then graduated grade school in Clackamas, Oregon.

As a child, she worked in the fields, coffee shop in Portland, OR, and at age 15 worked in the shipyards in Vancouver, WA during the war (1944) and then moved back to Jud, ND (the day the war ended in 1945). In 1945 she joined the convent and went to live in Edgeley, ND where she professed her vows in 1947. She worked in the nursing home there before coming to Mt. Calvary in 1949. When she first arrived in Mt. Calvary, she worked in the kitchen at St. Lawrence Seminary. When the sisters moved to the Mihm farm outside of Mt. Calvary, which Sr. Theresa was very instrumental in acquiring, she along with Mother Rose, opened Villa Loretto, where she was a grounds keeper, worked in laundry, worked as a nurse, Activity director and finally Administrator.

St. Theresa is survived by her siblings, Patsy Purcell, Theresa (Bob) Ferguson, Jerry Vandeberghe, her in-laws, Marge Vandeberghe and Kathy Vandeberghe and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Stella Vandeberghe, her brothers, John Vandeberghe, Thomas Vandeberghe, her sisters Virginia "Virgie" (Anthony "Bud") Rixen, Valeria (Ted) Heath and Elaine (Mark) Hammond.

A Liturgy Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:30 AM on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at Our Lady of the Holyland Parish-Holy Cross Site, 308 County Road W, Mt. Calvary, WI 53057. Rev. Paul Koenig, OFM Cap will officiate and Deacon Bernard Knier will assist. Inurnment will take place in the Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery at a later date.

Visitation for family and friends will take place from 9:00 AM until 11:15 AM at the church prior to mass.
