Steven D. Hess, 61, of New Holstein, passed away Tuesday, February 20, 2018, at his home with his family at his side following a 2 year struggle with Pulmonary Hypertension. He was born September 24, 1956, to Nancy J. Szymusiak Hess and the late Robert J. Hess. Steve attended Holy Rosary Grade School in New Holstein. He graduated from New Holstein High School in 1975 and attended UW Stout. On May 26, 1984, he married Lori Halbach at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Marytown. Steve was an avid outdoorsman; he enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, and tending to his yard. He worked for many years at Cenex Land O' Lakes, Hess & Associates, Holiday Automotive and most recently with Sargento. Steve is survived by his wife, Lori; his mother, Nancy Hess of New Holstein; his brothers and sister, William (Lori) Hess of New Holstein, Susan (Damien) Popp of Carmel, IN, and Gary (Carla) Hess of New Holstein; his maternal grandmother, Lottie Szymusiak of Marinette, WI; his mother-in-law, Romilda "Millie" Halbach of New Holstein; his sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Sandy (Dave) Burg of New Holstein, Carol (Dennis) Weber of Elkhart Lake, and Dave (Vicki) Halbach of Fond du Lac "St. Peter". He is further survived by aunts; uncles; nieces; nephews; other relatives; many friends; and last but not least, his four-legged feline companion, Jas-purr. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert J. Hess; his father-in-law, Herbert "Herbie" Halbach; a nephew, Christopher Ninmer; his maternal grandfather, Joseph Szymusiak; his paternal grandparents, Raymond & Rose Hess; aunts; uncles; other relatives; and his four-legged feline companion, Spunky. Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, February 25, 2018, at Sippel Funeral Home, 2618 Altona Avenue, New Holstein, WI 53061. Burial will take place at Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery in New Holstein on Monday, February 26th at 10:00 AM. Visitation: Family and friends may visit with the family on Sunday, February 25th from 11:00 AM until 2:45 PM. Steve's family wishes to extend their heart-felt appreciation to Dr. Mark Sharon at the Aurora Clinic in Plymouth and the St. Luke Pulmonary Hypertension Unit in Milwaukee. Steve is now at Heaven's gate inquiring as usual: "So where are you folks from?".
