Valeria Marie Groeschl on August 8, 2021 at the age of 91 joined the choir of angels. Valeria was born in the Town of Stockbridge, 5 miles west of Chilton on May 10, 1930. She was the 4th of 7 children born to Anthony and Veronica (Franzen) Groeschl. She worked hard all her life and endured many surgeries and health problems. She started milking cows by hand at the age of 7 and as a young child had to turn over the clover in a 4-5 acre field with a barn fork. After getting home from school she had to shuck corn and clean out the barn. Cleaning the porch floor and outhouse was something she had to do on a weekly basis. Her family not only had a farm, but a bar and gas station. She attended Holy Trinity School in Jericho and graduated from 8th grade in 1944. Valeria played piano and was a vocalist for her dad's band starting at the age of 16. She attended Chilton High School and graduated in 1948. On May 4th, 1949 she married Clarence Aloysious Buechel in Holy Trinity Church in Jericho. She was in the Holy Trinity adult choir from 1942 at the age of 12 to 1960. She was in other church choirs where they moved to from 1961 to 2003 when Syl died. Valeria and Clarence farmed one year in Marytown from 1949-1950 and then in Brothertown from 1950-1960 when they moved to St. Joe. She was the pianist (played by ear and liked to chord) and vocalist in her dad (Tony Groeschl's band) from 1946-1957. Syl Groeschl (her brother) took over the band in 1961 after their father Tony died. Valeria sang on occasion with Syl's band from 1961 to 2003 the year Syl died. She sang with her brother Syl on four of his CD recordings. She stayed on with the band from 2003 as the vocalist after his passing and the band became known as the Groeschl Band. She was still a member of the band at present playing the piano and being the vocalist. Being in the bands meant everything to her. It was like a lifeline. Valeria spent many hours helping Clarence in the fields and the barn. She also had to do that work when Clarence worked at Arps, hauled milk, did custom baling, and drove pea viners. Valeria always had huge meals for her family and the hired hands. After moving to St. Joe she became a member of the St. Joe choir from then until the present time. She directed the children's choir a couple of years in St. Joe. Valeria and Clarence retired and built a home across from Wolf Lake on County Rd G in 1985 and have lived there since. Valeria was a member of the Christian Mothers (of which she was the president for 2 years), Catholic Knights, and St. Joe quilters. She worked for the Fond du Lac park department cleaning Wolf Lake Park from 1990-2003. Valeria attended church weekly (whether in person or as of late on tv) as well as spending a lot of time praying her rosary. She helped care for her mother for many years. Most important in her life were her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. They were her pride and joy. She enjoyed singing, playing the piano, dancing, riding her bike, quilting, reading, making candy (caramels were her specialty), cooking, baking (high cakes and pies were her specialty), sewing (made most of her daughter's, mother's and her clothes as well as church vestments for her godson and chalice covers and stoles), gardening, canning (you name it including sauerkraut) and the Packers. At bake sales her pies would be sold before she brought them and she always brought a dessert or two to the funerals she attended. She always had a clean home and was a terrific cook who never left you leave her home hungry. She was a person who not only was caring to her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, but to others as well. When her goddaughter Dawn's mother passed away she helped raise her. Through the years several people who needed a place to stay for whatever period of time lived with Valeria, Clarence and their family including Sandy and niece's boyfriends. Nieces and nephews spent many hours at their home. She stepped up to help her brother with his children when his wife passed away and cared for a couple of her sister's children when their mom had to be at work. Valeria worked hard on the farm and was Clarence's right hand at all times. She lived on very little sleep and even though she had many aches and pains of her own, she cared for Clarence for 12 years after he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. She cared for him until the day he died in 2012. They were married 63 years. Her friends meant a great deal to her. Valeria was a woman with a great deal of determination and spunk which got her thru many trying times. She also made the time to attend as many of her grandchildren's events as possible. For the past several years Valeria and her daughter sang together (Valeria also played the piano) at various nursing homes in Fond du Lac and Calumet County to entertain the residents as well as at other nursing homes with the Groeschl band. She loved to talk to people and had no problem doing so whether it be someone she knew or not. Valeria was a person who wasn't afraid to go into extensive detail about what she was explaining-sometimes a little too much. The choir of angels will be pleased with her beautiful voice joining theirs and will welcome her with open arms. She was a great lady and one whose presence will be terribly missed. Survivors include her three children, Gary "Buck" (Janet) Buechel of St. Joe, Donna (Allen) Hoerth of North Fond du Lac, and Donald Buechel of St. Joe, 8 grandchildren-Dina Hoerth of Wauwatosa, Brent Buechel of St. Joe, Brian Hoerth of North Fond du Lac, Bryan (Kate) Buechel of Mt. Calvary, Eric Hoerth of Milwaukee, Brad Buechel of Michigan, Brittni Buechel (fiancee', Aaron Foshee) of St. Joe, Cami Hoerth of Madison and 2 great grandchildren, Jayce and Madilynn Buechel (Bryan and Kate's children). Other survivors include her sisters in law Sandy Groeschl and Alice Petrie. She is also survived by 3 godsons (John Schaefer, Tom Cullen, and Kurt Groeschl), her only goddaughter Dawn Jacobs, many nieces and nephews as well as many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence, parents Tony and Veronica Groeschl, daughter in law Sandy Buechel, Henry and Agnes Buechel, sisters Lucille Cullen and Eileen Groeschl, brothers Sylvester Groeschl, Lester Groeschl, Tony Groeschl, and Leon Groeschl. Other deceased family members include her brothers in law James Cullen, Leander Buechel, Ambrose Buechel, Lester Schmitz, Ed Schneider, Harold Petrie, sisters in law Magdeline Groeschl, Mary Groeschl, Carol Groeschl, Marion Buechel, Margaret Buechel, Viola Schmitz, Romilda Schneider and Marie Schneider. She was also preceded in death by her nephews, Lester Groeschl ( a Godson), Christopher Groeschl, Ken Cullen and niece Delores Buechel (Ford). Services for Valeria have already taken place.
