Obituary

Verona A. Karstaedt, age 89, of New Holstein, was called home to the Lord on Saturday, January 3, 2015, at Willowpark Residence. The former Verona Beck was born February 18, 1925 in Dodge County to the late Ervin & Amanda (Dobberphul) Beck. Verona attended school in Sheboygan Falls. On September 28, 1946, she married Elmer A. Karstaedt at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Sheboygan Falls; they were married 66 years. Elmer preceded her in death on July 11, 2012. Verona had worked at Tecumseh Engine Products in New Holstein until her retirement. She is a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church in New Holstein. She loved it when her family surprised her and joined her for worship. She also appreciated the Karstaedt family members who also belonged to the congregation. Verona was a "second mom" to many of her nieces and nephews; she helped to raise, Julia, Dione, Sheila, Mary, and Kim. All have fond memories of Verona during their childhoods. Verona loved fishing and traveling with her husband. She loved shopping, getting together with the family, especially during the holidays, and playing cards. She was a special lady, so gentle and kind to everyone she met. She was well loved and will be remembered by everyone. Survivors include her two sisters, Shirley Robek of Sheboygan and Diane Andersen of Sheboygan; four brothers, Larry (Carol) Beck and Melvin Beck both of Sheboygan, James (Jean) Beck of New Holstein, and Ronald Beck. She is further survived by a very special sister-in-law, Carol Presutti; a special brother-in-law, Al Tomczak; her husband's family, many nieces, and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Elmer; four sisters; and four brothers. The Funeral Service for Verona will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 10, 2015, at the Sippel Funeral Home 2618 Altona Avenue New Holstein, WI 53061. Rev. Azor Cigelske will officiate. Verona will be laid to rest next to her husband at the Eaton Union Cemetery in the Town of Eaton. Family and friends may call at the Sippel Funeral Home in New Holstein on Saturday, January 10th from 10:00 AM until the time of services. Memorials may be directed to the family for Hospice Angels Foundation of Hospice Advantage, who took wonderful care of Verona during the last days of her life.
