Viola J. (Gau) Sabel, 91, formerly of St. Cloud, WI and Elmhurst, IL, was called home to the Lord and in to the loving arms of her husband, Ray, and daughter, Mary, on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 after passing away at the Villa Loretto Nursing Home in Mount Calvary. She was born April 9, 1922 in the Town of Marshfield. On October 7, 1941, she married Raymond Sabel at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fond du Lac. Raymond preceded her in death on July 22, 2000. Viola was a very active member of Mary Queen of Heaven Catholic Church in Elmhurst, IL. She was a very loyal and active member for over 50 years with the Women of the Moose Chapter 1433 and with the retirees of the International Harvester Local 6. Survivors include her four children, Richard (Agnes) Sabel of Nekoosa, WI, James Sabel of Carpentersville, IL, Edward (Christine) Sabel of Hanover Park, IL, and Christine (Robert) Schaefer of Malone, WI; her son-in-law, James Oye of St. Cloud, WI; 13 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Preceding Viola in death were her mother & step-father, Agatha & Leo Straub; her husband, Raymond; her daughter, Mary Oye; a daughter-in-law, Jeanne Sabel; and two brothers, Leo & John Straub. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, April 22, 2013, at Mary Queen of Heaven Catholic Church 426 North West Avenue Elmhurst, IL 60126. Viola will be laid to rest at the Queen of Heavens Cemetery in Hillside, IL. York Road Elmhurst, IL 60126 on Sunday, April 21st from 4:00 – 8:00 PM and again Monday morning, April 22nd from 8:00 – 9:00 AM when brief family rites will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for the American Breast Cancer Society.
