Virginia "Jean" Sophia Mauer (nee Roehrig) of New Holstein, born April 21, 1918, in St. Anna, WI, died Thursday, July 2, 2015, at the age of 97.
She was the daughter of Casper and Isabella (Dreifuerst) Roehrig; sister to Cyril Roehrig, Lucille Bartel, Harold Roehrig, Alice Pethan, Rita Hipke, Mae Klase and Dennis Roehrig; dear mother of David, Nancy, Richard and Barbara; cherished grandma of David Jr., Lori, Jeff, Jen, Sara, Julie, Chris and Sarah; and great-grandma to Maddie, Emma, Samantha, Sarah, Claire, Audrey, Emily, Jacob, Max, Ethan, and Drew.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Lucille, Alice, Rita, and brothers Cyril and Harold.
She graduated from Kiel High School in 1937.
Virginia met Elroy Mauer in 1939 and they were married on June 14, 1941. Virginia was a full time home maker with a few part time positions sprinkled in. Virginia enjoyed gardening, cooking and volunteering with the boy scouts and girl scouts. She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church working with the Daughters of Isabella and the Christian Womens Society. She was very active with the American Legion Auxiliary. Every summer Virginia, Elroy and the family spent two weeks at the Boars Nest for a get-away vacation. In their later years, they traveled extensively.
A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Virginia's life will be held at 12:00 noon Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church 1724 Madison Street New Holstein WI 53061. Burial will be at the Holy Rosary Parish Cemetery.
Family and friends may greet the family at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church on Tuesday, July 7, 2015 from 10:00 am until 11:30 am.
