Virginia Della Steffes age 97, of Mount Calvary passed away Sunday, October 26, 2014 at Villa Loretta Nursing Home where she was a resident. The former Virginia Engel was born Oct. 8, 1917, in the Town of Taycheedah, to the late William J. and Agnes (Goebel) Engel. Virginia attended St. Michael's Grade School in Dotyville and graduated from St. Mary Springs Academy in 1934. On Oct. 28, 1941 she married Ben Steffes in Fond du Lac. She and her husband lived in rural Mt. Calvary all their lives and were dairy farmers. Virginia enjoyed quilting, cleaning hickory nuts, reading, doing word puzzles and taking an occasional trip to a casino with Elmer. She was always ready for a good game of sheepshead with family, relatives and her very good friends. Virginia was a member of St. Isidore Parish-Holy Cross Church in Mt. Calvary, a member of the Christian Women's Society, a founding member of the Calvary Homemakers, and a former Lady Township Chairwoman for the Fond du Lac County Farm Bureau. Survivors include a son, Elmer (special friend Julie Kaiser) of Mt. Calvary; 6 daughters, Lorraine (Gerry) Karls of (Charlesburg) Chilton, Marie (Jim) Ausloos of Mosinee, Ceil (Joe) Schaefer of Mt. Calvary, Annie (John) Schmitz of Fond du Lac, Judy (Dr. Joseph) Reising of North Mankato, MN and Dr. Jeanne (Dory) Hart-Steffes of Westfield, MA, 22 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, 3 step-great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents: her husband Ben, on March 9, 2008; her daughter-in-law, Betty Steffes, 2 brothers; Norbert (Rosie) Engel, and Lawrence (Leona) Engel, 2 sisters; Mildred (Albert) Pickart, and Catherine (Edwin) Steffes, and 2 sisters-in-law, Mildred and Leona Steffes. Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 6PM on Friday, October 31, 2014 at St. Isidore Parish-Holy Cross Church, 308 County Road W Mt. Calvary, WI 53057. The Rev. Gary Wegner OFM Cap. will serve as celebrant. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Mt. Calvary.
